Midlothian boy hospitalised after being hit by car outside his school gates

A child has been hospitalised after he was struck by a car yards from his school gates in Midlothian.

Police are probing the incident, which took place a stone’s throw from the entrance to St Andrew’s RC Primary in the Gowkshill area of Gorebridge on Tuesday afternoon.

The pupil, aged five, was leaving the premises when he was hit by the vehicle on Stobhill Road, sustaining ‘minor’ injuries.

Officers have since launched an investigation into the incident, but say enquiries are at an early stage.

The youngster has since been discharged from hospital and is now understood to be recovering at home.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a crash involving a car and a five-year-old boy in Stobhill Road, Gowkshill at 3.15pm on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 2.

“The child was taken to hospital with what are described as minor injuries, enquiries are ongoing.”
