Midlothian bakery divides locals with unusual pie inspired by kebab shop classic


A Midlothian bakers has divided locals after launching a bizarre new donner meat and chilli sauce pie.

Rutherfords in Bonnyrig shared the mash up flavoured pies after cooking a batch following a request from a customer on Friday November 4 and fans of the well-loved shop were quick to share their opinions.

The owner of Rutherfords shared a picture of the pies on Facebook writing: "You asked and I stupidly agreed here’s doner meat chilli sauce and cheese still to go on arghhhh."

While it doesn't sound like they are a fan of the new pie flavours themself, some Bonnyrig locals were absolutely delighted with the savoury snack.

The image shows nine classic Scottish pies filled with brown donner meat shavings and drizzled in spicy red chilli sauce - a classic combiniation usually devoured in the early hours of the morning from a local kebab shop.

Most customers were buzzing with the donner meat pies with dozens sharing their love in the comments section.

Gary Mcvetis exclaimed: "Wow!! I need this in my life!"

Lauren Hanlon joked: "You will get folk turning up at 3am after the pub."

While James Campbell added: "Now we are talking!"

Other popular flavours include their chicken curry pies as well as classics like macaroni and steak.

Catherine Thomas Mccolm said: "You need to start a festive pie Turkey, stuffing gravy and pigs in blankets."

As well as their famous pies, Rutherfords run by owner Lesley offers a selection of takeaway meals to heat at home, sandwiches, hot rolls, paninis, baked tatties and soups.
