(Reuters) - Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has extended his two-year stay in North London by signing a new long-term contract, the Premier League club said on Friday.

The 25-year-old Switzerland international, who joined Arsenal from Germany's Borussia Moenchengladbach in 2016, has made 94 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals.

"I'm delighted that Granit has extended his contract with us. He's an important member of the squad and is still young so will be able to develop even more," Arsenal's new manager Unai Emery told the club's website https://www.arsenal.com.

Xhaka, who has 62 international caps, is expected to start in Switzerland's World Cup Group E opener against five-times champions Brazil on Sunday.
