Midfielder sets out Nottingham Forest pledge as boss makes league prediction

Confident Cafu believes the best is yet to come from him in a Nottingham Forest shirt as he settles into a league which suits his style.

The midfielder, whose  loan from Olympiacos has now been made permanent  in a two-and-a-half-year deal, feels he is well suited to life in the Championship.

And while others may take issue with the frenetic nature of the schedule, he revels in the challenge of playing every few days.

The 27-year-old has made 16 appearances so far for the Reds, and says he always dreamed of a move to English football.

Championship challenge

Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton says the Championship is closer than ever this season, as his team look to pull clear of danger.

The Reds have lost just once in their last nine league games but still find themselves only four points clear of the drop zone after  Tuesday night’s victory over Coventry City.

Just 11 points separate third-bottom Sheffield Wednesday from 11th placed Preston North End, while there are 13 points between Forest and the play-off spots.

The unique challenges of this campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic mean any number of sides could yet be dragged into a relegation battle.

Marinakis' talent

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly has a secret hidden talent.

The Greek is  a successful businessman  and also owns Greek giants Olympiacos, as well as the Reds.

But he apparently also has another, perhaps somewhat surprising, string to his bow.

While boss Chris Hughton looks to get a tune out of Forest on the pitch, Marinakis seems to be capable of hitting the right notes off it.

Strength in depth

Nottingham Forest’s transfer business is done and dusted for another window, with boss Chris Hughton now able to focus on matters on the pitch.

And he still has a job on his hands, as the Reds look to pull themselves away from danger in the Championship table.

Forest seem to be making steady progress and are on a good run of form, losing just once in their last nine league games.

But there can be little room for complacency, with the gap to the bottom three just four points.

They have been  bolstered by the arrival of January additions,  giving the manager more options in a few different positions.
