Midfielder reveals the simple reason he left Leeds United to complete Nottingham Forest transfer

Liam Bridcutt has explained why he decided to leave Leeds United to join Nottingham Forest three years ago.

The 31-year-old midfielder moved to the City Ground in 2017 for an undisclosed fee, and signed a three-year deal.

He had previously spent two years at Leeds, after joining on a permanent basis in 2016 following a successful loan spell.

And the Scotland international says he decided to leave Elland Road for the additional stability and to prolong his career.

“My first season at Leeds United was on loan, and I can’t speak highly enough of the club really,”  Bridcutt told World Football Index.

“The fans and the atmosphere at Elland Road were excellent and you really feel the level of expectation when you are a Leeds United player, and it is something that really excited me. It was an easy decision to sign for the club.

“When I moved on to Nottingham Forest after Leeds United I did not want to leave the club, but the reason why I did was because of stability really.

“At the time, I only had a year on my contract at Leeds and the club was not willing to extend my contract. They were in a transitional period in terms of ownership so they could not really commit to long term contacts.

“So when Nottingham Forest made an offer for me to go there, and the long term contract that was offered, I chose that option and a decision I made for the longevity of my career.”

Bridcutt's time at the City Ground has been less successful than his time at Leeds, after making only 29 appearances in two seasons.

The midfielder has since been loaned out to Bolton Wanderers and Lincoln City, spending 2019/20 at the latter.
