Ryan Broom could be in line for a return to League One.
The Bristol Rovers academy graduate is currently plying his trade for Cheltenham Town in League Two and has starred during his near 18-month spell at Whaddon Road.
Broom's six goals in the league this season have helped the unfancied Robins to second thanks to an eight-match unbeaten spell.
Gloucestershire Live report that Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson was in attendance for Cheltenham's 3-0 win over Macclesfield Town on Tuesday evening, and he is said to have been keeping a close eye on Broom.
Burton Albion were also interested in the 23-year-old last season, prompting Cheltenham to sign him to a new two-year contract in the summer.
Newport-born Broom came through the youth system at the Gas but did not make much of an impact at the club.
He managed just nine substitute league appearances for Rovers, playing just three matches in League One in 2017/18 before being released.
The midfielder was soon picked up by Cheltenham, and has become one of their key players over the last 12 months, leading to praise from Michael Duff, who is confident he will stay at Whaddon Road.
"He deserves all the credit he's getting, Broomy," Duff said.
"But the difference between this year and last year, he had three or four good games and his head got turned a little bit.
"Now I think he's realised you have to stay on it all the time because if you come off it, someone else will take your place."
