Midfielder explains AC Milan transfer decision after Nottingham Forest link

Aster Vranckx has explained his decision to sign for AC Milan this summer after having been linked with Nottingham Forest during the transfer window.

The 19-year-old was linked with a move to the City Ground to strengthen the centre of Steve Cooper's midfield. Forest were just one of several clubs credited with an interest in the player, including Manchester City.

In the end, though, Vranckx opted to join the Italian giants on loan from German side Wolfsburg, with Milan holding an option to make his stay permanent. The Belgian was seeing his game time restricted following a change of managers at his parent club.

Speaking about his move, the youngster told Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad: "Things did not go as expected in Wolfsburg. The new coach told me that at the moment he saw better other players and that they would have priority, but also said that he considered me a good player and all these things, but that he could not give me the minutes I wanted."

Asked about the what attracted him to Milan amid the interest of other clubs, Vranckx added: "I had to look for a solution and I liked the Milan project a lot. They work with a lot of young players and they immediately showed me that they really want to give me opportunities.

"Although obviously I have to work a lot, that’s how it works in a great club. It’s part of the job."
