Midfielder could be set to leave Nottingham Forest as Wigan circle

Zach Clough could be set to leave Nottingham Forest after four years in the wilderness at the City Ground amid reports that Wigan are considering a swoop for the midfielder.

The former Bolton ace has not featured for the Reds since the 2-1 defeat to Hull City in the FA Cup back in January 2018.

His last game in professional football came in the 2018/19 season when he spent the campaign on loan at League One Rochdale where he made 13 appearances, scoring one goal.

Clough had signed for Forest for a reported fee of £3m in 2017, but has played just 31 games in all competitions and is free to leave the club in the summer when his contract expires.

Now Football League World claim the Latics are contemplating a move in the January window although there is still significant doubt about the their long-term future with the club still up for sale.

A Spanish consortium saw their deal fall apart but 11 more parties have come forward since.

"We are in discussions with these parties and they are performing due diligence which involves reviewing documentation within the data room and making further enquiries to the administrators," read a statement from their administrators.

"Exclusivity has not been granted to any party and we have updated the EFL on the current position."

Should Clough seal a move to Wigan, he would be reunited with former Forest team-mate Tendayi Darikwa who left the Reds to join the Latics earlier this month on a deal until the end of the season.
