Middleton shooting investigation continues with part of street taped off for forensics

West Yorkshire Police officers are still present in a Leeds street four days after a man was shot.

One area of Thorpe Road, in Middleton, remains cordoned off as officers carry out forensic examinations and specialist searches.

West Yorkshire Police's homicide and major enquiry team are currently at the scene.

Armed police units were called to Thorpe Road in Middleton by the ambulance service shortly before 8pm on Sunday.

A 31-year-old man had been shot in the leg and later turned up at a Leeds hospital.

The victim's injuries were not considered life-threatening and he was later arrested in connection with the incident.

A large police cordon was set up around the scene of the shooting, with only residents allowed to enter and exit the taped-off area.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "A scene is in place in Thorpe Road to undergo forensic examination and specialist searches and enquiries are being carried out led by West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team."

On Monday morning, the cordon was extended to block access onto Thorpe Road from Thorpe View, Acre Mount and Thorpe Crescent, with reports from residents that they had been looking for the gun.

The shooting was heard by people in the surrounding Middleton area.

An Acre Road resident said: “It was a worrying noise that we heard. I thought it was a bad car crash, to be honest with you. To know that there’s guns in the area is terrifying.”

Another witness said: “It was pretty chaotic. The whole road must have heard it as I did, a loud bang at around 8ish.

“A lot happened quickly because police were here within a few minutes and have been ever since.”
