Residents living in a South Leeds suburb are being invited to join a new community-led initiative which will give them a greater say in what goes on in their area.
The Middleton Community Network is being launched at the Middleton Bright Ideas Celebration, being held at Middleton Primary School tomorrow.
The event, which runs 11.30am to 1.30pm, hopes to encourage residents of all ages to connect with their neighbours, and will feature performances, displays, exercise taster sessions and workshops.
It will also give residents the chance to sign up to become part of the network which will give them the opportunity to be more involved in what goes on in their area, learn about the services being delivered for Middleton and to find out more about future plans before they happen.
The network is being formed by Middleton Regeneration Partnership, which aims to make the area a safe, healthy, prosperous and dynamic community where people are proud to live.
Hoping to sign up 50 members
Partnership Manager Lisa Huntley, an employee of regeneration charity re'new – which plays an active role in the Middleton community – said:
"The Middleton Bright Ideas Celebration is the perfect vehicle to unveil the new community network."Initially we are hoping to sign up at least 50 local residents, and over the coming year increase membership to more than 200. By signing up, the residents will be able to not only find out what is being planned for Middleton, but also have a very real say in its future.
"I will be there on Saturday and look forward to signing up our first members."
