Middlesex batsman Eoin Morgan ruled out of Surrey tie with sore shins

Eoin Morgan was forced to sit out Middlesex’s One-Day Cup derby against Surrey on Thursday with sore shins.

England’s limited-overs captain missed the match as a precaution and was replaced by overseas signing Ross Taylor, while Surrey picked their overseas batsman Dean Elgar after his arrival yesterday. Middlesex won the toss, opted to bat, and were 65 for two after 10 overs.

Surrey duo Jason Roy and Tom Curran were already missing through injury, while Joe Denly’s back spasm ruled him out of Kent’s match at Glamorgan. Those three and Morgan will, though, join England’s three-day camp in Cardiff from Saturday. The World Cup in England begins at the end of next month.
