Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis' ringing endorsement, Swansea City's dynamic duo and the one thing Trevor Birch needn't worry about

Here are the key talking points from Swansea City's 3-1 win over Middlesbrough at the Liberty Stadium.

Another ringing endorsement

Defeat in South Wales was Boro's sixth in a row and further dented the visitors' play-off aspirations.

Before and after the clash with the Swans, Tony Pulis admitted the game with Graham Potter's side would be Boro's toughest between now and the end of the 2018/19 campaign.

"I thought Swansea would cause us problems because their movement up front is very good," said Pulis.

"The kid out wide (Daniel James) is a special player and they caused us problems.

"We didn't get to grips with it until about 15 minutes into the second half.

"Out of all the games left this was the game I was more worried about."

It's yet another ringing endorsement for the Swans (and for James) from an opposition manager, with the likes of Pep Guardiola and Daniel Farke among those to praise Swansea in recent weeks after facing Graham Potter's team.

And how it's deserved.

The stat that's gone a long way for the Swans

Having squandered a 1-0 lead against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, Swansea have gone on to beat both Brentford and Middlesbrough on their home turf.

Potter's side have scored three times in each of their last two home matches.

But crucially, they proven difficult to score against.

Brentford managed just one shot on target on Tuesday night, the same tally Boro had on Saturday, although that saw George Saville bulge the net late on.

And such have been the efforts of Mike van der Hoorn and his other defensive troops, sides have found it difficult to break down the Swans of late.

With Joe Rodon returning to the fold having missed more than two months of action due to injury as well as Matt Grimes' capability of playing deeper, the Swans suddenly have a more formidable look about them at the back.

Taking their chances has been something of an Achilles heel for the Swans at times this season.

But if they can remain solid at the back, the recent run of four consecutive defeats won't be repeated.

The dynamic duo impress again

The Swansea futures of Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge looked incredibly bleak to say the least at the tail end of 2018.

But fast forward the clock to the present and it feels like the pair had never been away.

Dyer ended his long wait for a league goal by scoring a brace in the 3-0 win over Brentford while Routledge netted Swansea's second against Middlesbrough this weekend.

And as the two most experienced players currently in the squad, their knowledge of how to cope during the tough times as well as their understanding of the club has proven pivotal.

Routledge's versatility has also been a major plus for Swansea given Oli McBurnie's struggles with illness since the turn of the year.

And the 34-year-old was the recipient of some thoroughly deserved praise from his manager following the triumph over Boro.

“There is no doubt of what he brings to the group," said Potter.

“He has been a great servant to the club and I am pleased for him. He gets another goal, he had a good chance and hit the bar before then.

“He brings experience and is a quality person who is good to have around.”

The one thing the new man doesn't need to worry about

Trevor Birch was in the stands to watch as Swansea put on a show in their win over Boro.

The chairman arrived in Swansea this week and will no doubt have had stacks of paper in his in-tray.

The futures of Swansea's current first team squad - including the likes of van der Hoorn, James and Leroy Fer - will feature high on up his list of priorities.

Birch is also set to review the futures of those not in South Wales at present, with the likes of out-on-loan duo Jordan Ayew and Borja Baston among those on Premier League wages.

As well as the situations with players, Birch arrives at a club when all members of its staff - aside from Potter and the first team squad - have received letters of possible redundancies.

But it must have been reassuring for Birch to see that on the pitch, Swansea are clearly heading in the right direction.

The players have a special bond with each other while Potter's relationship with his stars as well as the fans bodes incredibly well for the future.

And while there have been some very tough times for the Jack Army in recent years, they - along with Birch - can go to sleep at night knowing that matters on the pitch are in very safe hands.
