Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock on his failed bid to sign Robbie Brady

Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock has revealed that he tried to sign Robbie Brady.

The 29-year-old Dubliner joined Bournemouth on Monday after being without a club since the end of last season, when he was released by Burnley.

Brady said yesterday that he had turned down other offers to join the Championship leaders on a free transfer until the end of the current campaign.

Bournemouth have an option to extend the deal beyond that.

Boro boss Warnock admits that Ireland international Brady was at the club for talks.

Robbie Brady has signed for Bournemouth (AFC Bournemouth)

“We did speak to him, he came up here and what have you, but unfortunately we couldn’t get it over the line," Warnock told The Northern Echo.

"I see that he’s signed for Bournemouth now. He’s a lovely lad, and a good player as well, so good luck to him.

“Bournemouth have the wage bill. I talked to Robbie, but I couldn’t get near what he got at Bournemouth."
