Middlesbrough have appointed Garry Monk as their new manager.

Monk replaces Steve Agnew at the Riverside Stadium and is tasked with steering the club to promotion from the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

“Middlesbrough FC are delighted to confirm the appointment of Garry Monk as the club’s new manager,” read a statement on the club’s official website. “Garry will be officially unveiled at a media conference on Monday.”

Monk resigned as Leeds United manager last month having led the club to seventh in the Championship, their highest league finish since 2011, and the 38-year-old was immediately linked with a number of jobs. He has decided to move to Middlesbrough, becoming Aitor Karanka’s long-term replacement after Agnew, his assistant, stepped in for the final 11 games of the season after the Spaniard was sacked in by the club’s owner, Steve Gibson, in March.

Boro are yet to confirm the length of Monk’s contract.
