The US Central Command said late on Wednesday that the US military completed its latest wave of strikes on Iran that it carried out at President Donald Trump's direction.

Iranian attacks target Bahrain and Kuwait

Iranian attacks targeted Bahrain and Kuwait early Thursday after the US reimposed a naval blockade on Iran and intensified its air strike campaign in retaliation for Tehran's attacks on ships trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

The American strikes hit an Iranian army barracks, killed at least seven troops and wounded hundreds of people across the country, Iranian officials said.

There was no immediate word on damage or casualties from the Iranian strikes.

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Iran had allowed an American who was "wrongfully detained" under the Biden administration in 2024 to leave the country.

Kuwait said on Thursday it was intercepting Iranian drones, while air raid sirens rang out in Bahrain following another night of American strikes on Iranian territory.

In a statement on X, the Kuwaiti army said it was "engaging hostile drone attacks following the nefarious Iranian aggression". Bahrain's interior ministry urged citizens and residents to "remain calm and head to the nearest safe place".

Yesterday's key developments:

Lebanon and Israel completed a new round of US-mediated negotiations in Rome, agreeing to implement "pilot zones" in southern Lebanon where Israeli forces would withdraw and turn over control to the Lebanese army.

• The US military launched rare daytime attacks on Iran, including a 90-minute wave of strikes, as it reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports. Tehran responded with strikes on “US military targets” in Gulf states.

• After closing the Strait of Hormuz, Tehran threatened to shut additional energy export routes including the Bab el-Mandeb gateway to the Red Sea, a major global shipping route through which Saudi Arabia exports its oil.
