Middle-aged yob caught urinating and spitting on Coatbridge Cenotaph

A middle-aged yob has narrowly avoided a prison sentence after disgracefully urinating and spitting on Coatbridge Cenotaph.

Disgusting Archie Mills, 54, was witnessed carrying out the disrespectful act by sickened locals on September 15.

Mills, of Jackson Court, was subsequently arrested by police.

The procurator fiscal said: “At 12.20pm, witnesses were in a vehicle and saw the accused urinating and spitting.

“They were alarmed by this and police were contacted before he was arrested.”

Mills’ defence solicitor, Rowan Myles, said: “He has nothing else outstanding.

“Alcohol plays a role in his offending.

“He’s had 32 years of daily alcohol consumption.

“Unsurprisingly he doesn’t keep in good health but has completed unpaid work before without having to return to court.”

Addressing Mills directly, Sheriff Frank Pieri said: “I seriously thought about a custodial sentence here.

“I’m just persuaded to offer you an alternative to that.

“You’ll carry out 120 hours of unpaid work in the next nine months.”
