Midday meal workers flay govt action

The midday meal workers are upset over the State government’s reported move to suddenly retire those workers aged who are aged 60 and above. Senior workers were being sent off in an unceremonious manner even though many of them have put in more than 19 years of service, they alleged.

Condemning the move, workers from Mysuru district staged a dharna here on Monday and claimed that those who were given retirement were among those responsible for taking care of children besides feeding them all these years.

The protestors demanded that the workers who were given retirement must be treated fairly and provided proper retirement benefits considering their services all these years.

The protestors also demanded that the retirement order must be changed from March 31, 2022 to April 10, 2022 and the hike in salary of ₹1,000 to the workers must be given from January 2022.

The workers further demanded that their salaries must be credited into their accounts on the 5 th of every month and added that the midday meal cooking services should not be privatised at any cost.
