Mid-air emergency sparks major response at Glasgow Airport

Emergency services raced to Glasgow Airport after a flight declared a mid-air emergency.

The Loganair flight from Stornoway to Glasgow sparked a major response after raising the alarm shortly after 9pm on Monday, June 14.

Fire crews, paramedics, and police raced to the runway after the Squawk 7700 emergency was issued as it flew near to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

All 22 passengers and three staff managed to disembark from the plane after it safely landed and there were no reported injuries, reports the Daily Record.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were in attendance but that airport crews dealt with the incident.

Glasgow Airport confirmed there was an incident on board the flight.

An airport spokesperson said: “The inbound aircraft from Stornoway to Glasgow was met by emergency services which is standard procedure.

“All 22 passengers and three crew on board were able to disembark from the aircraft.”

A spokesperson for Loganair said: “Following an alert on flight LM479 from Stornoway to Glasgow, the crew carried out the appropriate action and landed safely at Glasgow Airport. As per precautionary procedure, emergency services met the aircraft on landing. None of the three crew members or 22 passengers on board were injured.

“Safety as always is our top priority. We are grateful to Glasgow Airport for its support and assistance.”
