Microsoft has issued a warning telling its users to stop using Google Chrome as their browser.
They have urged people to opt for Microsoft Edge instead - its own browser.
Microsoft Edge replaced Internet Explorer back in 2015 and is the default browser for Windows 10 and 11.
However, Neowin noticed that Microsoft is doing all it can to deter users from opting to use Chrome.
The tech giant has slipped in a message for users when they go to download Chrome.
On the web-page for 'Download Google Chrome', internet users are met with an alert telling them that Chrome is not as trustworthy as Microsoft Edge, and that it's outdated.
It reminds users that 'Microsoft Edge runs on the same technology as Chrome but with the added trust of Microsoft.'
Another more lighthearted one reads: 'That browser is so 2008! Do you know what's new? Microsoft Edge.'
Although, Google has also indulged in this behaviour, and at times sends its own words of warning.
In one instance, Google told internet users: 'Google recommends using Chrome, a fast and secure browser. Try it?'
This message appears on its search engine and other services.
The news comes after Google Chrome instructed users to update their web browsers without delay last month.
By updating, it allowed Chrome users to use a hidden feature which could combat hacking.
What made this warning more concerning than usual is that two of the problems found by the cyber team at Google were given the dreaded 'zero day' rating, which means that it’s highly likely the bug is already known to criminals and hackers.
Therefore, the tech giant told users to update to protect their privacy.
The newest version of Chrome had fixed eight issues with the software, two of them deemed high risk.
Both issues have now been fixed, but only if users updated their Chrome browser.
Google confirmed the upgrade and said: "The Stable channel has been updated to 95.0.4638.69 for Windows, Mac and Linux which will roll out over the coming days/weeks.
We would like to thank all security researchers that worked with us during the development cycle to prevent security bugs from ever reaching the stable channel."
