Microsoft Teases 3D Model Maker and Voice Avatars for Copilot

Microsoft Copilot might not be making headlines lately. But the company is quietly working to expand the capabilities of its AI platform. Recently, two experimental features have been spotted, which hint that the tech giant is working on animated voice avatars and image‑to‑3D object generation.  Both upgrades were spotted in unreleased builds by TestingCatalog, and while they’re clearly labeled “Labs,” they provide an early look at features that could make Copilot feel a lot more personal and a lot more useful. Here’s everything you need to know about:

Voice avatars get a “Labs” badge and Copilot 3D

The first update is a change to the Characters feature tied to Copilot’s voice mode. The toggle now has a “Labs” tag, indicating that this is still an experimental feature. The character avatars are meant to make voice interactions with Copilot more personalised, but the update only involves small UI tweaks. There’s no official release timeline, and the feature remains limited to test builds for now.

Along with that, the company is also experimenting with Copilot 3D, which, as the name suggests, is a tool designed to generate 3D models from user-uploaded images. The interface now includes categories like characters, scenes, and objects, along with options to rotate, zoom, and preview models in grayscale or color. Since this feature is also in explorer mode, it allows users to remix existing 3D figures using prompts.

Another experimental feature adds playback support for Copilot Actions. It allows users to replay browser automation sessions. This could be useful for reviewing or adjusting automated tasks, especially for testers or power users.

While these new features are still in testing, Microsoft has rolled out several Copilot updates in recent weeks that are now available to all users:

  • Graph Connector Selector in Teams Toolkit: It helps developers ground Copilot in specific business data sources.
  • Dataverse Integration: It allows users to use Dataverse as a knowledge base.
  • Audit and eDiscovery Support: This enables logging and investigation of Copilot actions in Microsoft Purview.
  • Automatic Project Scaffolding for Graph Connectors: It speeds up development using an API description.
  • Copilot Agent Store in Word and PowerPoint: Allows users to discover and manage agents directly in Office apps.
  • TypeSpec Support: This allows for writing declarative agents with standard schemas.
  • Outlook Email Integration: It enables custom agents to read and reason over inbox messages.
  • Copilot Studio Agent Publishing: This makes it easier to publish and manage agents across Microsoft 365 apps.

That’s all from Microsoft for now. But if you want the next update delivered directly to your pocket, then join us on WhatsApp, where we share all the latest updates from tech and AI, along with in-depth reviews, analysis, and a lot more.
