Microsoft has produced a roll-up security patch for Internet Explorer versions 5 to 6. This should be useful to people who have not kept their browsers up to date. And as with vaccination, its impact is not just personal: almost all the virus activity affecting Outlook Express exploits vulmerabilities that have already been fixed, sometimes well over a year ago. All the individual patches have been well tested by this stage, though the bundle has not. The patch can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/ default.asp?url=/technet/security/ bulletin/ms02-005.asp Windows XP, Me and 98 users can also get the patch by using the Windows Update facility, but have less control over the process.
