MicroProse Reunites With Geoff Crammond to Revive a Classic Racing Legacy

MicroProse has reunited with legendary developer Geoff Crammond, the mind behind some of the most influential racing simulations of the 1990s and early 2000s. The renewed partnership brings Crammond back into the spotlight as the team works to revive the technology that helped shape the genre.

The collaboration will see the return of Crammond’s original racing game engine through a modern re-release that includes enhancements, updated tools and Steam Workshop support. This effort will take shape as the Geoff Crammond Racing series with GCR1 through GCR4 planned for release in 2026. The games will carry new names to reflect an independent path and maintain separation from official motorsport licensing, while still preserving the heart of the original experience.

Although the branding has changed, the core simulation engine, physics systems and design philosophy remain intact. Crammond’s work laid much of the groundwork for modern racing games, introducing features like advanced real-time physics, configurable driving assists, realistic AI behavior, detailed telemetry, deep car setup options and dynamic weather systems that pushed realism forward.

The GCR series aims to carry that legacy into the present with Steam Workshop support allowing players to create and share custom content including tracks, cars, teams and more. This reunion signals the start of a longer-term partnership with additional details on the series expected in the future.

MicroProse has provided individual Steam pages for each entry in the Geoff Crammond Racing series. Readers can follow the links to learn more about GCR1, GCR2, GCR3 and GCR4, wishlist the games and keep up with future updates as development continues toward their planned 2026 release.
