Micron Eagle Hydraulics founder takes chairman role as he names new MD

Micron Eagle Hydraulics founder Andreas Nagel is to become chairman in a management reshuffle at the Aberdeen company.

The 67-year-old has spent 30 years building an international business which supplies hydraulics engineering equipment and provides maintenance, repair, rental services and project consultancy.

He is handing over the managing director role to operations director Ian Gibson, who joined Micron Eagle in 1999. Business development manager Mark Burnett has been appointed business development director.

Henry Nagel, who is based at the company’s office in Houston, Texas, joins the Micron Eagle board, alongside his father Andreas, Gibson, Burnett, technical director Angus Mitchell, finance director Karen Henderson and non-executive director Neil Grimmond.

Micron Eagle Hydraulics, based in Blackburn, near Aberdeen, has worked on projects in the UK, Europe, West Africa, South East Asia, North America and South America. It works with sectors including energy, marine, agriculture and power generation.

Past projects include offshore turbine starter system upgrades, onshore power generation hydraulic control systems, reel and tensioner control systems, deployment control systems and testing and commissioning. The company has a team of 23.

Micron Eagle Hydraulics is part owner of Hampshire-based Delta-Xero, which has launched an innovative fluid decontamination system that provides significant cost, time-saving and environmental benefits.

Andreas Nagel said: “Having the right team in place has allowed me to take a broader view of the business as chairman after 30 years as MD. We have first-rate people in place, from the technical and operations side right through to sales.

"Ian is definitely the right man for the job. I’m extremely positive about the future of Micron Eagle and our investment in Delta-Xero.”

Gibson said: “Micron Eagle has always been recognised as a leader in the hydraulics sector. We are a proactive business, one that can respond to client needs when deadlines are tight. More than that, there is scope for us to assist clients with a more measured and planned approach to hydraulic and maintenance requirements.

“We have an excellent team here and a respected track record. We aim to build on that as we work together to take the business to the next level. I’m delighted Andreas has entrusted me with this opportunity to lead Micron Eagle.”
