Micro review: 'Equations' by Shivani Sibal

Highlights

Shivani Sibal's debut book 'Equations' released in July 2021. Set in New Delhi during the 1980s, the story gives a glimpse of politics and business in India's capital.

'Equations' follows the story of Aahan Sikand and Rajesh Kumar, who are like family but not quite. The childhood playmates are raised by the same woman in the same house, yet their realities are quite different as they belong to two different stratas of the society. While Aahan is the heir of the uber-rich Sikand family, Rajesh is their driver Laxman's son. As the two grow up, reality sinks in and they realise their differences. And soon their childhood friendship ends. Aahan tries to live up to his family's expectation of taking their legacy forward. Meanwhile, Rajesh has plans which are much larger than his life.

This is an evocative story of family ties, aspirations and class divide. The plot twists make 'Equations' a pacey and interesting read.
