Mickey Harte leaps to the defence of Sky Sports promotion and broadcasting of GAA after RTE receive Super 8s complaints

Mickey Harte has backed Sky's coverage of Gaelic games and said they have brought it to a new level amid criticisms of the British broadcaster's paywall.

RTE claimed they received a number of unhappy complaints from people who could not view the concluding Super 8s game between Mayo and Donegal on Saturday evening.

Sky had exclusive rights to broadcast the final Group 1 games, while the Group 2 games on Sunday were shown by RTE.

And Harte believes people have no "God-given right" to see every game on free-to-air television.

"Why should anybody have the God-given right to see all games on television?," Harte told the Irish Mirror.

"That was never the case back in the day and we all survived. Just because it’s a luxury that’s available nowadays and some people can pay for it, other people may choose not, and we’ll all have the luxury of seeing highlights afterwards if we didn’t go to the game

“There were no graphics much until Sky brought them in – did they not exist of the last 10 or 15 years? I think they did. I think that’s an advantage of them.

"We’re getting more insightful analysis, all sorts of diagrams and arrows and highlighting that didn’t happen before, so there’s something good in what’s going on there. Don’t just think that it’s all wrong."
