Mick Schumacher taking tips from Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc as starlet eyes F1 drive

Mick Schumacher has revealed he is receiving tips from Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc as he prepares to make the step up to Formula One.

Mick, son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, is a member of Ferrari's young driver programme and made his debut in a F1 car at the first test session in Bahrain back in April.

The 20-year-old certainly caught the eye in Ferrari's SF90, setting the second-fastest time of the session behind Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Schumacher Jr is poised to drive again for Alfa Romeo in a practice session at some point during the 2019 campaign and, with Kimi Raikkonen turning 40 this year, has been identified as a possible long-term replacement for the Finn.

And the German starlet says he is taking advice from Vettel and Leclerc in order to make the transition as smooth as possible.

“We have very close communication with engineers and the drivers are very helpful too,” Schumacher Jr told reporters ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix.

“Seb [Vettel] and Charles [Leclerc] for example, they talk with us and give us tips.

"I like to go and speak with the drivers and try to see their expectations of the weekend and my expectations for the weekend, and try and see how I can prepare myself even better.”

The highly-rated driver, currently racing in the F2 series with the Prema Theodore team, revealed how he is inspired by his father, who continues to recover from a serious head injury sustained in a skiing accident in 2013.

“I can learn from everyone," he added. "There is no one person I will go to and talk to and try to be as him, the one person I would want to is my dad.

“What my dad did was extraordinary. I appreciate it more every day.”
