Mick Quinn hopes Newcastle can 'go to the next level' amid the latest takeover talk

Former Newcastle United forward Mick Quinn hopes to see his former side 'go to the next level' amid claims the club is close to being taken over.

Reports on Sunday evening claimed Sheikh Khalid Bin Zayed Al Nehayan had agreed a takeover with Magpies owner Mike Ashley and that the contracts had been sent off to the Premier League.

A number of reports from the UAE have today claimed the deal is done but it is our understanding that although there has been talks between the club and Sheikh Khalid, a deal remains 'some way off'.

Nonetheless, Newcastle fans are excited by the latest takeover talk. As is Quinn, who hopes this protracted takeover can take the club to the next level.

He has also called on the club to secure Rafa Benitez's future as a matter of urgency. The Spaniard's current deal at Newcastle expires next month and fans are desperate for the former Liverpool and Real Madrid manager to remain at the club.

“All I want is for Newcastle to go to the next level, first of all get Rafa secured on a new deal,” Quinn told Talksport.

“It’s a magnificent stadium for football right in the city centre, the fans are crying out for success they’ve not won a trophy since '69.

“The club has been ran very well on a sort of budget that Rafa has had to play with. Ashley has been there but they need to go to the next level and they need Rafa to stay.”
