Mick Norcross' £6million fortune was swallowed by debt and taxes leaving just £42k

Today marks one year since the sad death of Sugar Hut legend Mick Norcross.

Grandfather-of-two Mick was found dead at his home in Bulphan, Essex in 2021 at the age of 57, with his death later ruled a suicide.

Essex police had been called to Mick's address in Bulphan at 3.15pm on January 21.

A spokesperson confirmed at the time that they were not treating the death as suspicious.

"Sadly, a man inside was pronounced dead," they said.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

On the morning of his death, the TOWIE star to took to Twitter and told his 510,500 followers: "At the end remind yourself that you did the best you could. And that is good enough."

His body was found by his heartbroken son Kirk, who admitted on Loose Women on Thursday that he was traumatised.

Kirk said he has suffered from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, experiencing flashbacks of the moment he found his father.

He said he still doesn’t think he has come to terms with it all, noting that lockdown "really affected" his diabetic dad, who was forced to shield from the coronavirus.

Kirk said: "I can't stress to people - you've got to tell people how you feel. He was old school. He worked in the docks in the 60s and 70s and I believe that era in men, [they think] it’s a weakness.

"I live next to my father, I was with him the night before. That morning, I was having my breakfast, and he did what he usually did, which was take a bit off my plate. And he was fine.

"He actually gave me his next business strategy and I was like, ‘Brilliant, if that’s what you want to do.’ That afternoon he killed himself.

"I was indoors, having my lunch and I got a call from my dad’s partner saying, ‘I can’t find your dad.’ And I don’t know why, even though I saw him that morning, I knew what had happened.

"We knew he was in the house, he’d locked himself in the house. I knew he was gone though, I knew the minute I saw him."

The former Sugar Hut boss was facing a £1.5million loss on a housing project and owed £5.2million on a hotel revamp while his Willow Restaurant and Bar had closed with four loans due.

According to reports, he was struggling to cope with the financial impact of the pandemic which closed venues all over the country.

He is said to have owed £554,503 to nine creditors, which included more than £22,000 in taxes.

His £6million estate was cut to just £42,381 after taxes, debts and other financial matters were sorted, with the remaining money going to his ex-wife Kerry as he hadn't left a will.

Months after the heartbreaking death of his father, Kirk shared a powerful message to any of his fans who are struggling.

He urged his followers to "make the most of their time" and told them they were not alone.

Kirk's voice cracked with emotion as he said: "This is a message for anyone that's struggling, anyone that feels that they just can't go on no more.

"You made it this far and no matter how hard times feel, no matter how hard life is hitting you, it will and it does get better.

"It takes time - days, weeks, years - but look how far you've come now. Doesn't matter how much money you have or what you don't have.

"Time is something we can't buy, and we can make the most of our time by just being present."
