Mick McCarthy says James McClean was right to slam FA and Kick It Out

Mick McCarthy believes James McClean was right to slam the English FA and Kick It Out campaign.

The Republic of Ireland and Stoke City winger did not hold back at the weekend when labelling both “a bunch of hypocrites and cowards’.

McClean reckons they backed Raheem Sterling during his fight against racist abuse, but ignored his own plight after a string of unpleasant incidents.

“Nothing will ever be done. I'm a white Irishman, to put it bluntly. That's not high on the agenda in England," said McClean.

Yesterday, McCarthy said: “I read the article. It’s his view and he’s entitled to his opinion - I do think they should look at it.

“If he’s being abused in that way, then it should be treated like any other form of racism or abuse. It doesn’t get treated the same way, absolutely not.”

And McCarthy continued: “I’m not on any social media platform so the whole world might be abusing me and I’m not going to know about it until someone says it to me.

“I don’t like myself open to it. I feel for James because it’s a different era and he’s on social media and they ought to be able to without getting abuse.”
