Mick McCarthy odds-on favourite to be next Cardiff manager

Mick McCarthy is now the odds-on favourite with the bookies to be the next Cardiff manager.

The former Republic of Ireland boss was sacked by Cypriot side APOEL earlier this month, but could be set for a quick return to management.

McCarthy boasts a strong pedigree in the Championship, having previously led Wolves and Sunderland to the Premier League.

Neil Harris was dismissed from his post at the Bluebirds on Thursday afternoon after overseeing a rotten run of six consecutive defeats.

McCarthy is 4/7 on to replace him, while previous favourites Paul Cook and Tony Pulis have drifted to 10/1 and 16/1 respectively, reports Wales Online.

Former Reading boss Mark Bowen has seen his odds slashed to 4/1, while fan favourite Craig Bellamy now stands at 9/1.

Fellow Welshman Mark Hughes is priced up at 12/1, while David Artell, who worked with new signing Perry Ng at Crewe, has also been tipped as an outside contender at 16/1, the same odds as Eddie Howe, Michael Flynn, Nigel Pearson and Bluebirds favourite Mark Hudson.

Mick McCarthy 4/7

Mark Bowen 4/1

Craig Bellamy 9/1

Paul Cook 10/1

Mark Hughes 12/1
