Mick McCarthy delighted with Vladimir Weiss' 'Michael Flatley' compliment

Ireland boss Mick McCarthy is backing his Euro-vision hopefuls to be twinkle-toed rather than super hoofers in Tbilisi today.

Georgia boss Vladimir Weiss yesterday likened Ireland’s approach to that of Riverdance star Michael Flatley.

“They play with phenomenal energy, just like Michael Flatley dances! There are good dancers in Georgia too, but he’s very special,” said Weiss.

“It’s easy for me to tell my players what Ireland are going to do, it’s not easy for them to stop Ireland."

McCarthy is a fan of Flatley - dubbed the ‘Super Hoofer’ - and said: “I don't know how to answer that, I'm not usually stuck for words.”

But as he chases a precious win in the Georgian capital, McCarthy added: “Oh, I see, I thought he meant we had good feet when we got the ball.

“When someone describes you as someone who is as brilliant as Michael Flatley, such a wonderful performer and dancer, and a good guy, actually, I’ll take that as a huge compliment of my team.

“If anybody is as good at his sport, his discipline, his whatever, he is excellent at it. So I will take that as a huge compliment.”
