Mick McCarthy admits it's time to change as he reveals message from Cardiff City board

Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy is ready to ring the changes this weekend as he searches for a much-needed victory over Reading.

The Bluebirds sit in 18th in the table after a run of five defeats in six games in the Championship, the most recent of which saw them hammered 4-0 at home by high-flying West Brom.

McCarthy and the team came in for boos and jeers from the crowd for their performance against the Baggies, with many frustrated at the defensive nature of selecting five centre backs and two holding midfield players for the match.

But, with Cardiff in desperate need of a win this weekend, the manager, while keeping his cards close to his chest, hinted that we could see a change of system for the Royals' visit.

"I think it might be time for a tweak," he said.

"We still have to maintain the positive things we’ve done over the last seven months, maintain those, get shot of some of the things that are not working and try something else.

"But I still believe in what we’re trying to do."

When probed on whether the changes to system and personnel needed to be wholesale following Tuesday's dismal display, McCarthy replied: "Let me tell you, when we train we don’t just practice hitting long and hopeful balls, that’s for sure.

"The other night, there were loads of groans and moans and that was fully understandable, because that was some really poor football we produced.

"Does that come with the pressure of the results or the teams we are playing against? But that’s not how we play, that’s not how we train, that’s for certain.

"But if you’re winning games, no one really cares [about the style of football]!

"But that’s not the way we train, that’s for sure."

The pressure is ramping up with each passing defeat and calls of "getting sacked in the morning" from the home supporters on Tuesday night only heightened the situation surrounding the manager.

However, McCarthy revealed the talks he has had with Cardiff's board and is assured they are fully supportive of him and his ability to dig the Bluebirds out of this rut.

"I spoke to Ken [Choo, chief executive] after the game, and I spoke with [chairman] Mehmet Dalman yesterday," he added.

"They are all very supportive and want to help make things better."

Cardiff welcome Reading to the Welsh capital at 3pm on Saturday.
