Mick Ashley immortalises Manuka Oval's snowfall

We asked, and he delivered.

When Mick Ashley announced recently that he had completed another fantastic Canberra-centric calendar, featuring everything from drones to the tram to Canberra dinner parties, we challenged him to put his own particular take on that magical AFL game earlier this month when snow fell on Manuka Oval.

The August 9 match between the GWS Giants and Hawthorn captured the imagination of the nation; the first AFL game played in snow becoming another soul-stirring addition to Canberra's story.

He was a little hesitant, but the end result was well worth the effort - footballers in snowball fights and even a Hawks player doing a snow angel on the field.

"I wasn't sure at first, but after consideration I realised that although it's cold enough it's still a novelty for snow to fall in the nation's capital," Ashley said.

That would be a big "yes".

All of Ashley's work, including the 12 images in the calendar and the Manuka Oval snow scene, can be bought as individual prints or posters at his website, www.mickashley.com.au
