Michy Batshuayi set to make Crystal Palace loan return after agreeing Chelsea contract extension

Michy Batshuayi is set to return to Crystal Palace on loan after agreeing a new contract at Chelsea.

The deal will also mean that Palace are unable to loan Blues midfielder Conor Gallagher, who had already undergone a medical with the Eagles, due to Premier League laws dictating that no club can loan two players from the same top-flight side.

Gallagher is now thought to be in talks with West Brom over a loan move.

Batshuayi, who will agree a new 12-month contract extension with Chelsea before moving, has long been deemed surplus to requirements by Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge and could have left in January, though no new signings that month meant the club could not sanction the sale.

However, since then, Olivier Giroud has moved above the Belgian in the pecking order and Chelsea have also signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

Palace, meanwhile, have been desperately searching for an answer to their lack of goalscoring threat since last summer, and have long considered another move for Batshuayi a good option.

The 26-year-old spent the second half of the 2018-19 season on loan at Selhurst Park, scoring six goals in 13 games.

Batshuayi will become Palace's third signing of the summer after right-back Nathan Ferguson and attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze.
