Michy Batshuayi joins Crystal Palace in transfer deadline day move from Chelsea

Crystal Palace have completed a last-minute deadline day deal for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi, who joins on loan until the end of the season.

Standard Sport understands that Palace were able to secure the deal, which does not include an option to buy, with a loan fee lower than the £4million asked of London rivals West Ham earlier in the day.

The Belgian had spent the first half of the season with Valencia, who were happy to let him out of his loan deal after just one LaLiga goal so far.

The 25-year-old snubbed a deadline day move to West Ham before Chelsea's London rivals turned down the chance to sign him due to Chelsea's demands for a £40m permanent deal, with the Blue unwilling to strengthen a top of the table rival with a loan deal.

Palace, however, have been keeping tabs on the former Marseille striker this month and moved to bolster in their battle against the drop - as well as their FA Cup campaign.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish shared his delight at bringing a player they have long tracked to Selhurst Park.

“This is a fantastic signing for Crystal Palace," he said. "Michy is a player we’ve long admired, and I’m delighted that we’ve finally managed to get him in a red and blue shirt.

"He will be a magnificent addition to our squad.”

Batshuayi, who is still in Spain at the Valencia offices, has made just four Premier League starts for Chelsea.
