Michigan State Women’s basketball drops thriller to Iowa on Caitlin Clark buzzer beater

All eyes were on Michigan State Women’s basketball on Tuesday night when they traveled to Iowa City to face the No. 4 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Spartans fell just short, 76 to 73, but it took a Caitlin Clark buzzer beater (and a questionable foul call) to make it happen for the Hawkeyes, and MSU showed that they are becoming a force to be reckoned with in the Big Ten under new head coach Robyn Fralick.

The story of the game will, of course, be Caitlin Clark. The Iowa star dropped 40-points on the night, but the Hawkeyes needed it from her as MSU gave them a major challenge.

For the Spartans, Julia Ayrault led the way in scoring with 16 points. To me, this was also a star-making night for DeeDee Hagemann, who had 14 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds. Hagemann is a true floor general for the Spartans and as a junior she is really coming into her own and leading this team.

While this was a night where all the attention will probably go to (and perhaps rightfully so) Caitlin Clark, MSU showed that they can hang on the road with one of the best teams in the country.
