With all the excitement over college athletes returning to campus for voluntary workouts along with the start of the 2022 basketball recruiting season, one story from a Big Ten rival of MSU’s should definitely not go unnoticed, and that is the fact that Ohio State will be having football players sign a Coronavirus risk waiver before engaging in voluntary workouts. Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press reported on Monday that Michigan State is not having players sign these waivers and instead is stressing safety and education for those returning to campus.
To be frank, and this is of course just my opinion, but it does feel a little odd to me to have players sign those waivers at Ohio State and I am glad the Spartans are not following suit. These are unpaid student athletes who ultimately make millions of dollars for their respective universities. If Ohio State thinks there is a chance players could contract this virus by returning to campus, they should bear the responsibility of that decision, in my opinion.
