Why Arizona State Will Win
It hasn’t been a perfect start for the Sun Devils, but that’s mostly because of the offensive side – the defense hasn’t had any issues so far. It shut down Kent State cold, and it overcame a miserable day from the other side of the ball to get by Sacramento State.
The D is ready to go with a pass rush and enough talent on the front seven to deal with the Spartan ground game, but in a game like this, ASU needs to dominate the field position battle. Punter Michael Turk has been fantastic so far for the nation’s best punting game, and he’ll need to be a star.
Freshman QB Jayden Daniels is hitting on enough deep passes to stretch the field, and the team is 2-0 even though Eno Benjamin and the running game haven’t gotten going. But …
Why Michigan State Will Win
This isn’t the game for the ASU ground attack to bust out.
Michigan State is back at on the defensive front, owning Tulsa and Western Michigan allowing a grand total of -3 rushing yards on the season. The Spartans are going to make Mr. Daniels try to win this game.
The D was a given coming into the season, but the O was a question mark. It’s been terrific so far, with Elijah Collins coming off a 192-yard rushing performance, and QB Brian Lewerke seemingly over the 2018 issues.
The offensive line is off to a great start, the defense is taking the ball away, and overall, it’s been the exact sort of kickoff to the season needed. Arizona State has to play a whole lot better than it did over the first two weeks to keep this close.

What’s Going To Happen
Michigan State is about to flex a little muscle. The defense will keep the ASU running game to well under 100 yards, and the secondary will come up with at least two picks against Daniels.
There won’t be big points put up on the board as MSU sticks to the ground game and lets the defense do the rest, but it won’t need a whole lot get by, and get revenge after last year’s loss in Tempe.
