Michigan State up, Michigan down or out in college football polls

Michigan State is moving up, and Michigan is moving down in this week's USA Today/Amway Coaches poll.

And the Wolverines fell completely out of The Associated Press rankings for the first time since 2015.

The coaches bumped the Spartans up one spot to No. 18 after their 17-9 comeback against Indiana. In the AP poll, MSU climbed two places to No. 16 after improving to 6-1 and getting bowl eligible after missing the postseason a year ago.

The Wolverines had been ranked every week in the AP poll since Sept. 27, 2015, when they made their debut appearance under Jim Harbaugh. They fell 10 spots to No. 25 in the coaches poll after a 42-13 loss at No. 2 Penn State on Saturday night. Michigan is now 5-2, with its other loss coming against the Spartans.

MSU travels to Northwestern on Saturday, while Michigan hosts Rutgers.
