Michigan State Track and Field athlete Tony Martin, 19, dies in gas station shooting

According to a report confirmed by the Detroit Free Press, 19-year-old Michigan State Track and Field athlete Tony Martin has tragically passed away after being shot in a gas station shooting in Saginaw. The shooting occurred early on Sunday morning at about 2am at a Sunoco gas station. His high school coach DeEddie Sanders confirmed the news with the Free Press earlier today.

Martin was a standout both in high school and at Michigan State, breaking the state’s long jump record with a jump of 26 feet, 6 inches. This was the seventh-longest outdoor jump ever and tied Carl Lewis’ best.

This is devastating news and we send our condolences to the family and loved ones of Tony Martin.
