Michigan State may have lost last weekend to Ohio State, but that did not affect their position in the Detroit Free Press’ Big Ten Power Rankings, where they were still ranked 6th overall this week.
This may come as a shock to some as Michigan State is still ranked above Minnesota, who is undefeated. However, Minnesota has played five relative weak opponents while MSU had to go up against the buzzsaw that is Ohio State, so this makes perfect sense to me.
Here is what they said about MSU in the rankings:
“The Spartans didn’t have the firepower to hang with Ohio State, and they don’t appear to have the offensive arsenal to break through Wisconsin’s defense. Because of the way the schedule is set up, Dantonio’s bunch could be staring at its third loss in seven games. But what else should be expected when faced with consecutive road tests against the Big Ten’s two best teams?”
