Michigan State stays ranked No. 20 in latest Amway Coaches Poll

There weren’t many upsets in week one of the college football season and the latest Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY reflects that.

Michigan State holds steady ranked No. 20 this week after beating Tulsa 28-7 last Friday night.

Michigan State is the 6th-highest rated Big Ten team in the Amway Coaches Poll, behind Ohio State (5th), Michigan (7th), Penn State (14th), Wisconsin (16th) and Iowa (19th).

The top five in the poll remain unchanged with Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State taking the top spots in that order.

Boise State and Nebraska are new to the poll this weeks at nos. 24 and 25 respectively. Iowa State and Northwestern fell out after unimpressive openers. Iowa State needed overtime to squeak by FCS Northern Iowa and Northwestern lost on the road to Stanford.

The biggest dropper within the poll was Oregon, who fell five spots after losing to  no. 13 Auburn in the closing seconds of their opening game. Auburn rose three spots with the win while Boise State went from the second “also receiving votes” team to no. 24 with their road win over Florida State.
