UPDATED: Michigan State reportedly loses scrimmage to Gonzaga 103-87

[Hands you a giant grain of salt]

Michigan State’s basketball season reportedly got off too a slightly shaky start. The Spartans reportedly lost a closed-door scrimmage to Gonzaga 103-87.

There are very few details available right now. We do know that it looks as if Josh Langford did not suit up for the Spartans. The following photo was on former Spartan Garry Harris’ Instagram during the game and shows Langford in warmups while the rest of the team is in uniform.

We probably shouldn’t take much from this result. Gonzaga, while expected to take a step back this season, is still going to be good. And we really don’t know anything about how the game played out, MSU’s rotations, or anything like that. Also, MSU was beat pretty handedly by Gonzaga in a similar scrimmage prior to last season.

The biggest thing here is health and it appears as if Langford isn’t quite ready for game action yet. It’s good to see Kyle Ahrens in uniform in the above picture. There haven’t been any reports of any new injuries suffered in the scrimmage, so that’s good.

We’ll have more updates from the game if and when they come available.

Michigan State opens up its exhibition season October 26 at the Breslin Center against Albion.

UPDATE: Some additional information is trickling in from various reporters.

Bingham starting at power forward is an interesting development. That spot has been one that is seemingly up for grabs. It’ll probably be a ways into the season until that is fully sorted as a number of front court guys should be getting a chance to start at the four.
