Michigan State RB L.J. Scott: ‘I kind of grew up liking Cleveland’

Sometimes well-intentioned questions don’t draw the expected responses. Such was the case when a Detroit-based reporter asked Michigan State running back about his football allegiances.

Scott, an early entrant to the 2019 NFL Draft who is participating in the scouting combine this week, threw a curveball when he answered a question about following the Lions since he went to college in Michigan.

“I was following the Lions living in Michigan,” Scott responded with a wry smile. “But I’m an Ohio kid, so I kind of grew up liking Cleveland.”

Scott is from Youngstown and a product of Hubbard High School. The 6-foot, 227-pound power back is coming off an injury-shortened season, but proved quite the workhorse for the Spartans prior to hurting his ankle. He ran for over 2,800 yards in his career and is projected as a late-round pick.

The Browns do have a need for a reserve, bigger-bodied RB. Scott did not run the 40-yard dash at the combine despite indicating he would during his interview.
