Michigan State is rated the 10th best college hoops program of the last decade by 24/7 Sports. Here’s the catch though, this isn’t a traditional ranking based on accomplishments. It’s based on adjusted efficiency.

It’s an interesting way to rank teams. Instead of league titles, Final Fours or national titles, the teams are ranked based on pure performance. The nice part is that this ranking adjusts for opponents so its a level playing field.
Since 2009-2010 Michigan State ranks as 11th overall in adjusted efficiency on offense and 10th in defense. Those are pretty darn impressive marks. Having a top ten offense and top ten defense is a very accurate predictor of post season success and Final Four runs and to be able to average those benchmarks over a decade says a hell of a lot about the program.
MSU sits behind Wisconsin (9th) for the top Big Ten team the last decade. After that you won’t be surprised to read the rest of the top ten is filled out by Kansas, Kentucky, Gonzaga, Villanova and a host of ACC teams.
It’s a good group to be a part of and consider that Michigan State is among the programs that can stack two decades of elite basketball on top of each other. There aren’t many programs that can say that.
And honestly, MSU has a ton of banners up from the last decade, so we’re all good here.
