Michigan State ranked no. 28 in ESPN’s latest SP+ College Football Rankings

It’s been a rough two weeks for Michigan State and their fans. First, they get blown out by Ohio State. Then, they get another beatdown courtesy of the Wisconsin Badgers. Of course, that win was made even more painful after Illinois beat Wisconsin yesterday. But I am here to tell you that it’s not all bad and that Michigan State is still a pretty good football team, and this was confirmed in the latest SP+ rankings from Bill Connelly and ESPN. MSU is ranked 28th in that ranking system.

Michigan State didn’t receive any votes for the AP Poll, but they are looked at much more favorably in these rankings since they take opponent difficulty into account and is used to measure how good a team really is outside of win-loss record.

MSU’s defense is still ranked very high in these rankings at number 11, no surprise there. The offense and special teams unit, which have been Michigan State’s weak points this year, clearly, were ranked down at 72 and 80, respectively.
