Michigan State ranked as the 14th best combination of football and basketball programs

NCAA.com put out an awesome list this year which ranked the 16 schools that have the best combinations of football and basketball programs. What is so cool about this is that this isn’t an opinion piece, this was done entirely by overall win percentage in each sport. Even cooler is that Michigan State came in at number 14 on this list due to decades of sustained success in both sports.

Here is their methodology:

“We didn’t take championships, or quality of opponents, or win margin into account. Instead, we looked at the leaderboards for historical overall win percentage in both sports, to see which teams have seen sustained success over the history of their programs. Only 16 teams appeared in both of those lists, including some we expected, and others that were complete surprises.”

Michigan State basketball has a .610 all-time winning percentage, good for 39th in NCAA history. The football team is ranked 25th all-time with a .600 winning percentage.

Michigan State was one of only two Big Ten teams on this list. Ohio State came in at #6. You can add this article to your toolbelt of argument points to hold over your Michigan fan friends (or enemies).
