Well, the last of the major preseason polls has been released and it’s about time for some football.
The Associated Press preseason poll was released today and Michigan State checked in at #18.
This is the second-highest preseason ranking for MSU from a major outlet and the highest actual humans have voted the Spartans. ESPN’s advanced football metric FPI has Michigan State #14 in its preseason index.
Michigan State checked in at #20 in the Amway Coaches Poll, ESPN’s college football analysts ranked the Spartans #24 in their preseason poll and the NCAA ranked MSU #22 in their preseason poll.
After the way last season ended it wouldn’t have been a shock if MSU was unranked this preseason. It looks like the Spartans have enough returning players of quality and program prestige to warrant a top 20-ish ranking.
