Michigan State OT Cole Chewins listed on Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

Michigan State’s Cole Chewins, the 6-8, 303-pound, the fifth-year offensive tackle from Clarkston, Michigan, has been named to the Watch List for the Wuerffel Trophy. The award is presented each year in Fort Walton Beach, Florida to the player who best combines community service achievements with scholarly and athletic prowess.

The award was named after the 1996 Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel from the Florida Gators.

Cole Chewins is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten Selection and a two-time Academic All-American. Adding to his accolades in academics, Chewins is also a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in finance. He is also a member of Michigan State’s Eagles leadership council. He has played in 37 games for the Spartans with 25 starts at left tackle.

According to Michigan State’s website, Chewins is an active member of the community, where he regularly visits elementary schools through the team’s “Lansing Promise” program. He also volunteers with the Children’s Miracle Network and MSU’s Great Dairy Adventure.
