Michigan State opens as 17.5 point favorite against Western Michigan

According to Bovada, Michigan State will head into Saturday’s matchup with Western Michigan as a 17.5 point favorite. Of course, Michigan State is coming off a 21-point victory over Tulsa.

Conversely, Western Michigan just blew out Monmouth 48-13 in Kalamazoo. Western just got their starting quarterback back. QB Jon Wassink out of Grand Rapids missed the last four games of 2018 with a foot injury.

On Saturday, all eyes will be on 1,000-yard rusher and senior back LeVante Bellamy who will be trying to impress scouts against the best running defense in the league.

Third year Western coach Tim Lester is well aware of the challenge his team is approaching. Commenting on the Tulsa game, Lester told David Goricki of The Detroit News:

“Negative-73, yes I’m well aware of that. It will be a heck of a challenge. When you get to play a defense, top five in the country, nothing comes easy. You have to earn every yard you get. You have to get rid of the ball quick. You have to make decisions, you can’t hold the ball. The Tulsa quarterback held it a little bit and paid the price.”
